High-risk, low-income populations who do not drive and have difficulty taking public transportation because of disabilities, age-related conditions, or income constraints rely on specialized transportation provided by Handi-Wheels to get them to the places they need to go. One example is Deanna Bakken, who has cerebral palsy. She is in a wheelchair and lives on her own. She utilizes Handi-Wheels Transportation to take her to her medical appointments. “Handi-Wheels provides a very needed service in the community especially for people on a limited income,” she stated. “I appreciate the service Handi-Wheels

provides.” Her story and many others are a constant reminder of the importance of having affordable and accessible transportation like Handi-Wheels available.

Handi-Wheels Transportation began serving the community in January of 1975 after the residents at New Horizons Manor, recognizing a need for transportation, bounded together and raised funds to purchase a wheelchair accessible van by gathering and redeeming 1,750,000 Betty Crocker coupons.
